Taking the ancient Greek concept Kairós—the decisive moment of destiny—as its point of departure, this exhibition explores the tension between human free will and fate. Through painting, photography, moving image, and installation, the artists examine how freedom is constructed, limited, and renewed within social, psychological, and structural frameworks.
Humans reflect on fate because we experience ourselves as choosing. In moments of hesitation, refusal, love, or escape, we believe these acts to be our own decisions, and thus question whether destiny can be altered. In Kairós: Between Choice and Fate, freedom and fate are not opposed; freedom is understood as a relational process rather than a fixed state. The exhibition invites viewers to inhabit the tension of choice, where individual will and systemic forces coexist, and where freedom may emerge from uncertainty itself.
